Certain commercial matcha spreads have ingredients you wish you wouldn’t know – modified fat, synthetic flavouring among a few. So, we set out to give you a simple recipe, with just 5 simple ingredients. Make this at home in under 25 minutes!

Matcha gives you a tremendous boost of energy over sustained periods of time, they have a high content of vitamin A & C and a good amount of dietary fibre and protein. They also possess high antioxidant levels which help to reduce inflammation and prevent certain chronic diseases.

  • 2 tsps LVL matcha powder
  • 50 ml hot water
  • 4 tsps brown sugar
  • 120 ml dairy milk/ oat milk almond milk/coconut milk can be used as well but it will not be as thick in consistency
  • 1 tsp tapioca flour add another tsp if you prefer a much thicker consistency


  • Whisk the matcha powder, boiling water and sweetener in a cup until there are no lumps.
  • Heat the milk in a small saucepan for 5 minutes until it boils. Remember to stir constantly to avoid spillage.
  • Slowly add the matcha mixture into the milk mixture.
  • Add the tapioca flour and continue whisking for around 20 minutes on low-medium heat until the volume reduces by half.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
  • Pour into a jar and refrigerate. The spread will get thicker while cooling.


Note: Best consumed within 1 week.
